Hi, welcome to my blog.
I have started Poetry Joy because, from childhhood onwards, poetry has been my main vehicle for pouring out heart and soul.
And I have always loved the way it enables me to be totally real and open as well as creative.
It brings me joy to have found the courage to write and share it now.
Though for many years it remained hidden due to deep-seated insecurity and feelings of inadequacy.
Poetry is a great medium to connect with another soul through its expression.
In many ways, the poetic defies definition.
How do you explain that which touches eye, mind, heart and spirit?
Poetry means different things to people.
How would you define it? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please feel free to leave a comment.
For me, the poetic is the main vehicle I use for baring my soul, warts and all.
I like to express it this way:
Poetry is.. “Poetry is…a living letter ~ open wound and heart ~ for all to view ~ and marvel at ~ then move on changed ~ A fusion of thoughts ~ melding of minds ~ union of souls ~ pure alchemy”
I love the stuff. Its instant arrival at place, person or plot. Its dancing rhythms and stunning word choices. The message does not take bundles of time to absorb. It establishes refrains that accompany the subconscious throughout the day. It elevates the spirit.
Search “Stuff That Rhymes” on Google.
Thank you for taking time to read and appreciate these words. I’m so pleased it spoke to you! Blessings 🙂
Lovely to meet you Joy … A poem to me, is the outpouring of the flood of one’s emotions compacted into a complete book … each a book of its own. Life compressed into readable portions … like the fragrance crushed within a rose … to be released and bless as the Lord wills.
It’s lovely to meet you too, Liana. Thanks very much for visiting and leaving such an insightful comment. Poetry is definitely “the outpouring flood of one’s emotions compacted into a complete book” as each poem tends to stand alone as an expression of feeling and point of view. I love your description..it is so apt to think of poetry “like the fragrance crushed within a rose”..truly beautiful! And each is waiting “to be released and bless as the Lord wills” via our hands.
It’s a delight and blessing to get to meet you. Please feel free to stop by any time! Blessings 🙂
HI,
I’m Tokoni, a student and poet. Its nice to meet you. I’d like to invite you to my blog at http://www.insanitybeautiful.wordpress.com if you’re interested. Thanks.
Hi Tokoni. Thanks for stopping by! I have had a little look at your site too. It’s always a privilege to meet a new reader and a fellow poet. I love your use of photos and ways of expressing your creativity. God bless you. 🙂
Thank you for sharing your heart through words!💜
What a blessing that God gives us creative outlets to be able to release the yuck and muck, and also to be able to give the world (and ourselves) a picture of God’s grace and healing.!
Hi Jodi. It’s good to meet you! Like you, I’m so thankful for having a creative outlet to “release the yuck and muck”, but most of all for the potential it provides of being able to bless and encourage others. Thanks for visiting! 🙂
Hi Joy, your description of poetry speaks to me, especially the part about baring all. If we hold back, the process is hindered. To me, words that pour out are intimate prayers, confessions, and praise birthed from pain, sorrow, joy, etc. So thankful to have connected here. In Christ, Julie
Hi Julie, I’m glad you’ve discovered this page and can relate to the thoughts I’ve shared. Poetry is such a great gift to us, isn’t it? I’m grateful for the privilege of being able to pour out what I’ve received as an offering for others. Just as you do too. Do make yourself at home here, my friend! You are welcome to check out the archives and blog posts as well. 😉🌸
Good morning my poetic friend, I will take time to peek around. I think I have followed both of your blogs, but I need to make sure my email is entered.
Good morning, Julie, peek around as much as you like! I’m grateful for your company here. And if you do subscribe to Words of Joy via email rather than WordPress, then you will receive my free resource for weary writers and a regular (two monthly or so) newsletter as well that has unique content and news. Have a blessed weekend, my friend! xo 💜

Joy, I don’t know why I haven’t been to this page before now! I agree with all you say about poetry. It’s such a great way to process feelings and thoughts and touch another soul. I’m so glad to call you my dear friend. Thank you for being such an inspiration and encouragement to me. When I read your Poetry Is…, it reminded me of something I wrote several years ago. I’ll share it here:
Poetry is…
a fresh cup of water to parched lips
a golden nugget among gray stones
a heart longing painted with words
a ray of sunshine through darkened clouds
a magical moment recaptured
a rainbow defying a downpour
a way to connect from heart to heart
Blessings and love to you, dear Joy! xoxo
Hello Gayl, I’m so glad you’ve found this page and enjoyed reading my little poem about what I believe poetry is or can be. I LOVE your own description! So beautiful. My heart says “Amen!” to all of it!
I’m very touched and blessed by your friendship as well. It’s an honour to know you and call you my dear friend. We share a love of God, of sharing words to bless and encourage others with, of nature, reading and writing poetry and devotionals. Love and hugs! xo 😊❤️
