My Instagram life

When we feel low it's tempting to hide away and conceal ourselves from the gaze of others. But we are never invisible to God. He alone sees into the depths of our sad hearts, collects all the broken shards, the tears we cry inside, and gives us the ability to begin again. We start to discover soul freedom from what has burdened us, as we hand it all over to God, one broken piece at a time. There was I, quietly reading reading and resting in my bedroom chair, minding my own business, when something out the corner of my eye caught my attention. This little creature was climbing over the window, as carefree as anything. Our insects aren't huge in the UK. It's been enlarged here. Otherwise I would probably have screamed as well as jumped up in surprise. 😏 But I'm still not sure what it is. During times when we feel too weary to be much use to anyone, or when bouts of unworthiness and insufficiency strike us, maybe God is calling us to rest ourselves in Him, instead of dwelling on our perceived lack. Just this It doesn’t feel like much, this tiny offering she brings, a small seed sown for the one who is known as King of kings. And her heart contracts, flutters a bit, because it just can’t be enough, can it? All she has to give to him is broken sleep and broken dreams, a weakened body, weary and sick, where deformity sits. She has no riches, no wealth, no treasure to share, nothing tangible, just herself and the pain and stiffness she bears. Yet she hears a voice calling her forward, gently encouraging her to walk toward him with ungainly feet and aching limbs. And he lifts her chin, smiles into her downcast face and draws her into a loving embrace. Rest here, my child, rest your heart and mind and rest assured I receive your tears like they are ocean-drawn gifts and precious pearls. I know how much your heart aches to bring me a suitable offering, and longs to have a different kind of existence to be living. All I ask from you is that you believe who I AM and open your heart to receive all the gifts I delight to pour into your soul’s reservoirs. There are times when my illness hurts my heart just as sharply as it affects my body. It rises when I am brought face to face with my limitations. And it feels as if I’m looking out on the world from behind a thick hedge. It doesn’t happen often but it stings, nevertheless, as I feel isolated and lost. Yet it's in that place of seeming inadequacy where God meets powerfully with you and me. We begin to focus more on what we can do by His grace than on what we cannot do by ourselves. And when we lean hard on God, we discover soul solace and unexpected joy in our weakened state, mercy and grace for our brokenness, hope for each day, and healing for our wounded emotions, at least. #livingwithME #chronicillness #chronicjoy #brokenness #weakness #grace #hope #healing #inChrist

There are unexpected gifts to be discovered in dark places, mined in pain. They are made available to all who are willing to press through the grieving process, and allow themselves to look beyond it to the fruit it produces in their soul: deeper dependence on God and inner growth. We come face to face with the brokenness in the world and in ourselves, but as believers in Christ it needn’t faze us.
