light: an invitation to let the light in

“How beautifully leaves grow old. How full of light and colour are their last days.” — John Burroughs

Let the light in

I see light
as evidence of God's
presence, tangible

awareness revealing
his liquid, golden grace,
with a mindful

contemplation on his
will and ways, because
light filters most

through a receptive
host. Maybe I can learn to
be a willing

vehicle, a silent subject
to receive, then I can
achieve a place

of calm within,
where light and love
and joy reside

and hope rests
quiet. It chirps, a softly singing
bird, sitting still

as still can be, yet
gently fluttering its hopeful,
delicate wings.

  1. Dear Joy, These first phrases touched me so deeply:

    “I see light
    as evidence of God’s
    presence, tangible
    awareness revealing
    his liquid, golden grace,”

Oh what a precious gift to see these autumn golden rays as evidence of His golden grace, so filled with the Sovereign care of our Saviour! Sending you love and hugs across the pond today!

    • Dear Bettie, as I rarely wake early enough to capture the dawn, looking at daylight filtering through the leaves and seeing sunsets dying glory each evening is where these thoughts stem from.

My heart lifts because of the reminder they provide of God’s golden grace and His eternal light-filled ways. May you be gloriously bathed in them, dear friend, and savour each day’s holy hug from above. Sending love, hugs and prayers across the pond! xo 💜

  2. I agree with Bettie: these lines are such beautiful truth:

“I see light as evidence of God’s presence, tangible awareness revealing his liquid, golden grace,”

Thank you for this sweet gift.

Truly, its that tangible experience of His sweet nearness that opens our hearts and fills us with such joy, as then with His fresh Spirit breath and light filling us to overflowing, we run to obey and serve Him, wholeheartedly. Praise Him!!!

And I LOVE these autumn colours 😊😍. May God’s beauty -also inside of us and the words He gifts us to encourage others also – continue to overwhelm us with His sweet nearness through every trial coming our way. Much love to you from across the ditch 😊

    • Dear Anna, thank you for your sweet gift of encouragement. I love how you have expanded on the first stanza and applied its awakening awareness to a deeper faith experience of God’s presence with us, which ultimately leads to giving Him glory and praise. I also LOVE autumnal colours and how they reveal the beauty to be found in restful surrender. Thank you for the beautiful blessing. Amen! Much love to you across the ditch and across the page. xo 😊❤️

As always, your words filter in my mind, blessing me with new insights. Blessings Joy.

  4. So beautiful, as always, Joy! Here are the lines I loved, though I loved the whole thing, too:
    Maybe I can learn to
    be a willing

Thank you for sharing your heart through your poetry. Blessings and love to you, dear friend! xoxo

    • Gayl, you’ve touched on my heart’s deepest longing in those lines. It seems like a lifelong learning exercise but it never grows dull because it’s also an adventure of faith with huge blessings to be had in the journey itself. Blessings, love and hugs to you, dear friend! xo 😊💜
