‘Looking and finding’

I look for the face of Christ

Now obscured by a cloud of unknowing,

a veil of uncertainty

a mist of missed moments

Grey cobweb coating distorts

all sense of His Presence

I grope blind for the grace of Christ

Now shadowed by seeds of doubt,

a complacency about the commonplace,

a turning away sigh, a dull

grey ache nothing else can

subdue, erase or ever replace

I see and sense Him everywhere

Now as the babe in the manger

An infant Christ-child, an innocent

A mild man bleeding wild-red on a cross

A risen Saviour overcoming

all pain, all sorrow, all loss

I find traces of His face

in every man, woman and child

Though it is seen the most

in those who love Him most of all

His grace, beauty, mercy and charity

reflected imperfectly ~ in you and me

“In Messiah, in Christ, God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade. Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ. Everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance. Because of Christ, we give off a sweet scent rising to God, which is recognised by those on the way of salvation – an aroma redolent with life..” ~ 2 Corinthians 2:15 – The Message

  1. Uncertainty and seeds of doubt giving way to a clinging to faith to see and sense Him everywhere. So beautiful, Joy. You describe the “grey aches” of struggle and longing and the holding on by faith to Him who is everywhere and always here even when we can’t always “feel” Him. Thank you for encouraging my heart today. Hugs!

    • Trudy, it is an undeniable reality that we live with doubt and uncertainty, and an undeniable truth that God reveals how to hang on in faith as He opens our eyes to His presence. Such things give us hope when circumstances seem to shout out there isn’t any. May you sense God’s presence and hand upon your life as you walk with eyes of faith and not by human sight. He sees; He knows; He understands your plight and He loves you so very much as His precious child! Hugs and blessings to you, dear friend. 🙂 x

  2. What a glorious truth, Joy – the mystery revealed – Christ in us, the hope of glory. I know this truth, and yet your words helped me to experience it afresh. We are made in His image, and reflect His love and grace to a hurting world. A beautiful reminder!
    Blessings and hugs,

    • Yes, Kamea, we know this truth yet still need reminders from time to time because it is a “mystery revealed” and our hearts can struggle to make sense of “Christ in us, the hope of glory” and the wonder of it all. Thanks very much for sharing your thoughts. Blessings and hugs to you too. 🙂 x

    • Jedidja, your lovely comment speaks of my intentions as I share poetic words and hope they’ll find a welcome in another’s heart. Thank you! Have a blessed weekend, my friend. 🙂 x
