My Instagram life

I wrote these words as a reminder to myself because alongside increased physical depletion, soul darkness has been my companion for months. And as I finally come out blinking into the light, it's helpful to realise it's never as far away as we might think. Even the darkness of our minds and hearts is not dark to God because He can transform and fill them with His incandescent light, grace and love. When I think about what makes me smile, helps calm my soul and brings me joy and peace, then views of clouds, sky, trees and water fit the bill perfectly. They are also a tremendous inspiration for my poetic expression. What does it for you? #sky #clouds #trees #water #lake #soulsimplicity #peace

As I watched this squirrel speeding across the grass, I partly envied her energy and partly wondered if she knew how to slow. Because it’s not laziness to slide softly into a new year, a new decade. Rather, it’s a wise move for our souls. We’ve just had a season of excessive consumption, busyness and celebration so it makes sense to cut ourselves a little slack as we enter January. Instead of focusing on change, how about accepting ourselves just as we are? A bit of gentle self-care to nurture our flagging souls might be the greatest benefit of all. Be more tortoise than squirrel or hare, perhaps. Just a thought... 😉🐢🐿🐇

This is a slimmed down remnant of my birthday flowers. Their pared back appearance caused my husband to say that less is more. I'm inclined to agree with him. Become the showy, heavy sunflowers and swathes of greenery overshadowed vibrance hidden in the background. Now these few remaining flowers have room to breathe, and a chance to reveal their own splendour. But it made me wonder if I could apply the "less is more" epithet to my life. Can I see the hidden beauty in these pared back days full of increasing fatigue and pain? Can I savour slower than before as my go-to method of getting through my days? I don't know, but it might just help me to appreciate the gift of rest I need. Better than chafing against the hiddenness of living with M.E and chronic illness or becoming sad because I'm less able than I used to be. #lessismore #paredback #minimalism #flowers #remnant #beauty #rest #recovery #hidden #livingwithME #chronicillness #grace

I don't often take photographs of food. And this isn't even a special occasion meal. But what it does signify is love in action. Towards the end of a day when I had spent hours resting in bed, feeling unwell, full of exhaustion and pain, my dear husband decided to let me sleep as long as I needed to and called me to come downstairs only when he had prepared this simple but nourishing meal for me to eat. He shows his care in a 1,000 little ways, and this is one of them. Because left to my own devices I would have grabbed a quick sandwich and been satisfied with that. #loveinaction #hecares #loveonaplate #simplemeal #gratitude #livingwithME
